Hot Take: The Nintendo Switch OLED is Pointless

I know, I know, the Nintendo Switch OLED was announced 3 weeks ago. However, I try to let announcements sink in before I weigh in. I feel like responding immediately may result in more of a knee jerk reaction rather a well thought out response. Well, I've thought about it. The Nintendo Switch OLED model is pointless.  Bare in mind, I'm not one of those people who was holding out for a "Nintendo Switch Pro." In fact, I wasn't even looking for any new model at all. However, this thing just bothers me. Yea, it's got a bigger screen and more memory, but if it didn't there would literally be no need to swap. It has to have SOMETHING. It doesn't mean that the "something" is that amazing. One could argue the dock having a LAN port will be great for online play, but that's the dock. Nintendo could have just made a new dock for the current model. I can't even say for certain that the OLED dock doesn't work with the original Switch. If it d

I Think I'm Actually Enjoying Pokémon Unite

Pokémon Unite dropped this week and I had decided to download it simply because it was free. When the news for this mobile game dropped, I was not super interested. I knew of multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs), but I haven't been interested in playing them. I'm admittedly not much of a mobile or PC gamer, so I just never tried them. I also play a lot of games for their story, primarily meaning I invest WAY more time in the single player aspects than multiplayer. If the game doesn't have multiplayer, it doesn't turn me away. If a game doesn't have a single player mode, then I am less interested. Now that I have played Pokémon Unite, I feel that perhaps I didn't get MOBAs a fair shake, because I'm really enjoying the game. I even streamed playing Unite on Twitch last night. Look at all these darn menu tiles. The game does suffer in some areas for me. Primarily, I think the things that turn me off a little related to it being a mobile game in build. Sur

Pokémon GO Fest 2021: 5 Years and Going Strong

Pokémon GO Fest will feature a branching Special Research mission focused on Pikachu Pop Star and Pokémon Rock Star. Hopefully, a future event will give us the best Cosplay Pikachu: Pikachu Ph. D. The yearly celebration that Pokémon GO Fest 2021 is virtual again this year and tickets are discounted to $5 (US). I'm looking forward to playing tomorrow (July 17, 2021) and catching some rare pokémon. Since legendary raids are going to be in abundance I have an opportunity to complete my shiny Regi collection. I only need Registeel to have the whole set until Regidrago and Regieleki show up at some point in the future. It is kind of amazing that Pokémon GO has continued on strong, even stronger really, than the initial surge we saw in 2016. It will be interesting to see if it continues to be the mobile money printer that it currently is. In terms of pokémon games, it's probably the only one I can confidently say I have consistently played for 5 years. The main series games are repla

Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl Silence - No News is Good News?

Pokémon news has been dry since the announcement of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP) alongside Pokémon Legends Arceus. Although there have been the regular updates on new card sets and special events in Pokémon Go, I'm kind of surprised we haven't gotten any other news about BDSP. It makes me a little nervous, as it makes it seem like there isn't anything to report. My biggest fear is these will be straight up ports with graphical upgrades. I will still buy them, as I enjoyed the Sinnoh games, but I don't think I would enjoy them as much as if they had something new that the originals didn't. This line of thinking has led me to think about another possibility. It is possible, although unlikely, that perhaps The Pokémon Company (TPCi) is slowly learning that it's probably not the best idea to give away all the new additions to a remake so early or make claims they don't fulfill. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (ORAS) suffered from all of the n
