New Pokémon Snap Is Exactly What I Wanted
New Pokémon Snap dropped on April 30th, 2021 and has sense proven to be a must have. When the game dropped, I was in competition with my wife and daughter for time to play, however since then I have been able to put in some real time with the game. I can confidently say that it is a wonderful game and well worth the price tag. I was concerned given the original Pokémon Snap for Nintendo 64 didn't exactly have much replay value. New Pokémon Snap (NPS) doesn't have that problem.
So far I'd say I'm maybe a little over halfway through the game. At this point, I feel I can say some things without being too spoilery. I've uncovered about 9 stages and found 4 of the Illumina Pokémon, a new special "boss" type pokémon to photograph in NPS's Lental Region.

Admittedly, I haven't put as much time into NPS as I typically do new pokémon games. In fact, I've been busy with work and moving which has also kept me from writing blogs as well. However, that said I've still put in about 10 hours, and given I'm not at the end, I think that's pretty good.

A lot of my time has been spent trying to get the highest photo scores I can to beat out my friends, which is awesome. Pokémon Snap (N64) had challenge scores, and you could certainly try to do better than your friends, but there's just something about a real time scoreboard. At one point I was well ahead in 1st, but I haven't gotten to play in a day or two, so I'll likely have to work my way up again. I am enjoying finding the unique interactions for those extra points. At the moment, I'm making an effort to find them on my own without looking up the interactions online.
The other thing I'm having way too much fun with (obviously) is photo editing and posting. I'm in a competition with my kid to get the most "Sweet!" medals. I think she's in the lead right now, but we'll see about that.
All in all, if you were wanting an improved version of Pokémon Snap with more pokémon, more to do, and better graphics, then pick up New Pokémon Snap. The only thing I've hated about it so far is the dumb name. Please, Nintendo... stop slapping "New" on your titles and consoles. It is dumb.
