Featured Pokémon: Unown

We're back from March break! Well, I wasn't planning on being back this early myself.. but then I get a summons from Matt saying that I'm in charge of the Featured Pokémon thing this month. THEN he tells me that he asked the Facebook peeps, and they decided they wanted UNOWN to be the Featured Pokémon. Wow, thanks a lot community! It's seems I got April Fooled... trollololol.

Anyway, what can we do with Unown? I'll be optimistic. I've read the opinions of people on the Facebook group, and some seem like they could actually do something. Here is what I've figured out about the spelling bee pokémon:
  1. Unowns are experts are unleashing thier Hidden Power.
  2. Unowns are SOOOOO mysterious that the guy who tells you what your pokémon's Hidden Power is in Icirris City CAN'T tell you what Unown's Hidden Power is. (BUT I did find out Rattata's is Dragon).
  3. You can use a team of them to spell intimidating things.
  4. You can take Unown X and throw it like a ninja star (my idea).
Ok, so movesets. Well, they all learn Hidden Power. Only Hidden Power. It would be cool if they could use other "Power" moves like Secret Power, Superpower, or Ancientpower... but they can't. That being said, there is a bright side. I've heard if you can send out more than 3 Unown at one time they are actually super powerful. Too bad the Pokémon League only recognizes Single, Double, and Triple battles. No quad battles... so no unleashing your Unown fury.

Matt's Unown Potential
Attacks: Hidden Power (Psychic)
Item: Metronome
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid or Modest
EVs: 252 Sp. Attack/ 252 Speed/ 6 Defense

Ok, so I'm pretty sure Matt posted this as a joke... but I'm going to run with it. The idea is simple. You can only use Hidden Power, so you might as well power it up using the Metronome item. The Metronome item (not to be confused with the Metronome attack) will power up a move if you use a move over and over. Luckily... you have no choice! You can use any type of Hidden Power, but if your lucky, you'll have a Psychic power one. That will be stronger since Unown is a Psychic type. If you need to know what type it is, go fight a Kecleon. Timid and Modest Unown tend to be the best when attacking. Also, when raising your Unown, keep in mind that they do best (or at least better) in Special Attack and Speed... so focus on that. This could be top percentage!

What You Should Be Using
Attacks: Hidden Power (Whatever Type You Want)
Item: Choice Scarf or Choice Specs
Ability, Nature, EVs: Same As Above

Pretty much the same as above, but you don't have to wait for the Metronome to slowly build up the power of Hidden Power. If your worried about speed, use the Choice Scarf. If you are worried about Special Attack, use Specs. This is the top percentage of Unown strategies.

What You Shouldn't Be Using
Attacks: Hidden Power (Doesn't matter the type)
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold or Clam
EVs: 252 Defense/ 252 Sp. Defense/ 6 HP

Ok, so this is a horrible idea but... you could try to make a bulky Unown. Here's the thing, it's not bulky. In fact, it's just a eyeball with some doodads around it. So yea... I know I wrote this, but don't do it. Ever.

So did we achieve powerhouse status with these strategies? Nope. I'm all for using underestimated pokémon.. but you NEED something to work with.. and Hidden Power isn't enough. I dunno, I guess you could try Baton Passing stats to the first two sets and try to KO something as an insult to your opponent, or ninja star toss Unown X at your opponent, but that's about it. You know what...

Unown X Shuriken
Attacks: Hidden Power (Ninja type)
Item: Sticky Barb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 6 Wherever. I don't care. HP?

Take the Unown, throw at the opponent's eye. Claim your prize money.

The End. I'll call you later.
